Drupal and Magento have basically nothing in common, except that both systems have powerful frameworks under the hood and of course run with PHP and MySQL. After several concepts and test runs, we decided to develop a middleware that stands between the systems and acts as an intermediary for smooth communication.
Our own cloud infrastructure is certainly of benefit to us here, because we can parameterize the API servers and adjacent systems individually, and thus get the best performance out of it, even when things get busy with Facebook and co.
